Museum in Warsaw

Prior to the Second World War, approximately 400,000 people lived in the Warsaw Ghetto – the Jewish residential district of the city. Today, virtually nothing of it remains. After the uprising that occurred in 1943, the area was razed to the ground by the Nazis, and in the post-war years, it was built over with monotonous blocks of slab-like architecture. Until recently, the only thing that commemorated the victims of the ghetto was the memorial to that dark period of history erected in 1948 on a rectangular piece of open land.
