Weekend House in Coliumo

Situated 550 km south of Santiago in Chile, this concrete cube with rough-boarded surfaces was built as a weekend house, studio and exhibition space for two couples. The roof terrace, the jumps in floor level and an 8-metre-high internal space reflect the relief of the rugged coastline. While the facade has the coloration of the surrounding rocks, internally the concrete surfaces are in a neutral white, which is broken only by the black window frames and the grey screeded flooring. The two-layer outer wall creates a climatic buffer with a one-metre-deep spatial zone in which the kitchen, sanitary cells and stores are housed. These can be divided off with sliding elements made from reused formwork.
